Friday Brunch at Vivaldi - Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers, Dubai

I recently stayed at the Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel & Towers and had the chance to have brunch at Vivaldi.  Having had dinner before at Vivaldi by Alfredo Russo, I thought it a coup to have the hotel's brunch here. But it is not an Italian brunch. Brunch serves as a platform for the hotel to showcase its other outlets, so as I walk in I see Indian cuisine by Ashiana and Japanese cuisine by Creekside. Here are my impressions.

Venue

Having been to the hotel's all-day dining restaurant, I can safely say that while it is standard to have brunch in an all-day dining restaurant, the use of Vivaldi is an excellent choice. It is a gorgeous restaurant, with a lot of natural light. Terrace seating, with views of the creek, make these seats a prime choice.Floor to ceiling windows shield one somewhat from the heat, but either way, totally worth sitting out there in these hot months.

The views from the terrace are breathtaking, with the Dubai skyline almost silhouetted in the distance, accentuated by the world's tallest building. Closer, we have a view of docked yachts, while the odd traditional dhow passes down the creek. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Stations

The hotel's three main restaurants form the backbone of the stations with Japanese, Indian and Italian represented. With Vivaldi hosting the brunch, I was obviously intrigued by the Italian offerings. The pasta station proved immediately popular with my daughter while the risotto on a trolley was one of my two dishes of the day. Porcini mushrooms, parmesan and truffle. Nice! While there was pizza, I would have liked to see this as a pass around dish, ensuring freshness.

While you can expect some typical Indian dishes, I went no further than the Pani Puri from the Chaat station. It is done live and the end result is deliciously spicy! A must-have on your visit.

I liked the Japanese station, highlighted by vegetable and squid tempura. A nice addition to the station was the variety of soy sauce infusions. However, it was the sushi serving that got me excited.

A personal highlight for me was the Pork station. I like the manner in which the wine cellar was brought into brunch to house the pork. Right next to the Pork station is the dessert room, nicely positioned in the bar. Expect a decent cheese selection for the size of the venue. This is a great place to move your brunch. I don't think guests realise what a  stunning bar area it really is.

There is also dedicated kids' area, complete with a few dishes like fish and chips and sliders.  Admittedly a modest kids' area, but there is at least a  space that kids can read a book and watch a movie, while nibbling on dishes specially prepared for them.

Verdict

Overall, the brunch, priced at 160AED-269AED is great value. Brunches are expensive, but the price range here is very good. Also, the brunch is great for families, and not just because of the pricing. Staff are quite attentive to kids to ensure that the 3 and a half hours go very quickly. In fact, staff are generally very good, topping drinks and changing cutlery without prompting. And so friendly. At the same time, I see so much potential for this brunch in terms of going beyond being just a good brunch.
